The Brough Ness site, along with Ness of Duncansby and MeyGen, is one of the largest potential tidal energy sites in the UK. The site is located between the southernmost tip of the Orkney Islands (South Ronaldsay) and John O’Groats.
The Brough Ness tidal array will have a total generating capacity of 100MW – enough power for nearly 100,000 homes. Atlantis has an option for lease from the Crown Estate, securing seabed rights to develop the project. The team are investigating potential routes to allow the project to connect to the national grid.
The site, combined with other key Atlantis projects, MeyGen and Ness of Duncansby expands the company’s development portfolio to almost 600MW in the Pentland Firth alone. These three sites will benefit from synergies through both construction and operation, driven by the pooling of management and vessel resources.
